Watch a dog with their favorite person, and you will see love made visible, complete with a soft pink tongue and a waggy tail. My dog Radar has taught me so much about being emotionally available and open. He generously doles out pure, unadulterated doses of love and adoration, regardless of how productive I’ve been, if my students listened to me today or not, or whether or not I cleaned the toilets. If I’ve been out of the room for 5 minutes, I get the same gracious greeting when I return from a visit to the fridge, as a soldier come home from war. His love is undefined by my sense of worthiness—he loves me stupidly, outrageously, in spite of myself. There is no reason or sense to the depth of Radar’s love for me. It is wholly excessive and ridiculous. A dog is God’s love made carnate, covered in fur. For that I am so grateful! May you love and be loved in stupidly, excessive, generous ways this season and for all the seasons to come!

I have my "Hokulani" that fills me in the same way. Like no human can ever express or love, he is my furry soul mate.
To Love like a Dog is so Right. The way all people should do Right.
I liked your story. My best friend is Jack, my black lap.
